What Ram keys are like
Ram keys come in three main flavors, and the year of your truck decides which one you've got.
Older trucks, roughly 2002 through 2008 back when they wore the Dodge badge, use a plain metal key with a transponder chip hidden in the plastic head. It looks ordinary. It isn't, and that's why a hardware-store copy cranks the engine but won't start it.
Around 2009 the trucks switched to the Fobik, an all-in-one plastic fob with a small emergency blade tucked inside. Newer trucks, mostly 2019 and up, run push-to-start with a smart proximity fob, though plenty of work trims kept the Fobik longer.
ProMaster vans are their own animal. Most 2014-2022 vans carry a bladed remote key with a chip, and some of the newest ones moved to a smart key.

How long does it take to program a Ram key?
