Around 2011, most Fords moved to a stronger 80-bit chip, and many got the IKT flip key, that folding switchblade style you see on Focus and Escape. Same idea underneath, tougher encryption.
The newest Fords with push-to-start use a smart proximity fob instead. It sits in your pocket, the car senses it, you press a button.
